DIY Maintenance
Suggestions to maintain that treasured wool, oriental, or decorative area rugs before you call the professionals.
- Vacuum the front.
- Flip it over and vacuum the back and the floor beneath it.
- Whack the rug's underside with a rug beater or broom while it is turned over so that the dust and grit fall from the base of the carpet fibers to the top.
- Put the rug right side up again and vacuum more. Repeat until you are satisfied.
- It is easier on larger-area rugs to fold the rug in half instead of turning it over. It helps to use a carpet rake or grooming brush in between vacuuming, which helps kick up fine dust and particles.
- Always set your vacuum to the appropriate carpet height, and be gentle with those wool rugs.
